What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is a reading competition in which teams of students read books, write summaries and later answer questions about the books they have read. At the end, students will compete as teams, first in their classroom and then among other teams from their grade level, to see who can recall the most about the books they have read!
Why do we have Battle of the Books?
- Promotion of literature and libraries
- Introduction of new books and genres
- Competition with focus on academics
- Team building
- Recognition of importance of reading
- For FUN!
What are the Student Responsibilities?
- Read at least two of the books for your grade level (titles will be chosen in your group in a minute)
- Enjoy the books you read
- Write a summary after reading each book (using the form provided by the library)
- Be familiar with the Title and Author (first name and last name) of each book read
- Work cooperatively with your teammates
- Choose a team spokesperson/ captain before the class competition
